Armen defended his PhD in neuroscience at Columbia University in 2018. His doctoral work focused on neural mechanisms involved in sensory perception and the formation of a sense of self. Beyond academic work, his popular science writing has been appeared in New York Magazine and been short listed for the National Magazine Award. His work as a ceramicist has shown at galleries and museums such as the Jewish Museum, his work as a film editor has screened at the Sundance Film Festival. At JFI, his his current focus is on the Digital Ethics and Universal Basic Income initiatives.
