JFI launches new macroeconomic research initiative, led by Claudia Sahm

Press Release

New York, NY — January 14, 2022

Today, the Jain Family Institute (JFI) launches its newest initiative, Macroeconomic Research, led by Claudia Sahm. Sahm joined JFI in 2021 as a Senior Fellow and now serves as Director of Macroeconomic Research. In this role, she draws on over a decade of experience in economic policy: Federal Reserve (2007-2019), Council of Economic Advisors (2015-2016), and advising Congress on fiscal policy (2019-2021).

Congress, presidential administrations, and Federal Reserve officials acted aggressively to ameliorate the economic disruptions and hardship caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. JFI’s Macroeconomic Research project aims to study the effectiveness of these policy actions and draw lessons to inform future policy decisions. To do so, the project will use cutting-edge research, new empirical tools, and public-facing communications. A primary goal is to develop policy recommendations that could lead to broad-based and inclusive employment and an economy that works for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, educational attainment, or geography.

“I’m thrilled to lead the new Macroeconomic Research project at the Jain Family Institute and contribute to a critical shift in economic policy. Our goal is to build the intellectual framework and practical policies to achieve an equitable, sustainable economy and financial security for all Americans,” Sahm says.
