Maurice Asare joined JFI as an Operations Associate in May of 2019 after graduating from Bowdoin College with a degree in Philosophy and Africana Studies cum laude. He joins JFI with a background in criminal justice, which he has developed through experiences in nonprofit work and research.
Maurice interned at the Innocence Project for the Special Counsel for New Initiatives in the summer of 2017. That following summer, he received a grant to conduct research on the tactics used by NYPD officers in communities of color. While at Bowdoin, Maurice focused his academic work on the intersections of gender, race, and the law, writing his senior thesis on the fraught relationships between black women and law enforcement officers.
